The Story

BLOOD WEDDING is a story of love, betrayal and death.  It begins in a small rural community.  Two lovers, known only as The Bride and The Groom, are eagerly awaiting their wedding day.  Things become complicated when the Groom's mother learns that the Bride was once engaged to Leonardo Felix.  The Felix family were implicated years before in the murder of the Groom's brother and father.  The Groom's mother, despite her anger, soon decides not to raise a fuss.

Little do they know that Leonardo, now married with a son, is still deeply in love with The Bride.  The night before the wedding he confesses his love to the Bride.  The Bride is torn but sends him away.  The wedding goes forth as expected.  But at the wedding party, the Bride soon goes missing.  It is soon discovered that she has run away with Leonardo.

They escape to the forest pursued by the Groom and many members of the community.  As they push deeper and deeper into the forest,  the hunt becomes more dangerous.  But no one has seen the destruction that will be caused when the Moon and Death conspire against the lovers.

Written by Federico Garcia Lorca in 1932, the tragedy has endured due to a carefully constructed story and some of the most beautiful poetry in the world.
